2009 SCV Gridiron Awards

USA Gridiron is pleased to announce the SCV Gridiron awards for 2009. The categories include Team of the Year, Program of the Year (Combined Team Achievements) and Coach of the Year for both High School and Youth football as well as High School Player of the Year. 

Valencia is the 2009 Team of the Year.  The Vikings were dominant all season against top notch opponents during the pre-season and league play capturing the Foothill League Championship.  The Vikings advanced to the CIF Northern Conference playoffs advancing to the Semi-Finals.

Coach Larry Muir’s leadership and coaching prowess earns him Coach of the Year honors while standout Junior Quarterback, Alex Bishop is Player of the Year.  Valencia Junior RB Steven Manfro is recognized with an Honorable Mention.

The Valencia Vikings football program performed well at every level this season.  In addition to securing the varsity Foothill League Championship, the Junior Varsity earned a share of the league crown while the Frosh went 9-1 and finished second in league.  With a combined winning percentage of .848, the Vikings are the SCV Gridiron Program of the Year.

The youth football season also saw plenty of great performances this year.  SCV Warriors Bantam returned to the PYFL Super Bowl and claimed the lone title for the SCVAA this year.  The Bantam Warriors finished with a 12-1 record and won their third Super Bowl title in four years and are the Team of the Year.

The SC Wildcats J2 Navy team also captured a Super Bowl title, their second consecutive.  The Wildcats showed character and resolve on their way to an undefeated 10-0 record.  These Wildcats are the Team of the Year for the second year in a row.

In addition, Wildcats J2 Navy Co-Head Coaches Deron White and Jack McKeon are recognized as Coaches of the Year for 2009.  White and McKeon took over the helm of this team in the off season and kept the boys focused and determined to repeat as Super Bowl Champions.

Coach Ron Brewer is likewise recognized as Coach of the Year for his commitment to the SCVAA Seminoles Senior squad.  Coach Brewer has led this team to great achievement every season, and this year was no exception as the Seminoles again advanced to the PYFL Super Bowl and earned a Conference Championship. 

The SCYSA's Santa Clarita Wildcats are the Program of the Year.  With ten teams, the Wildcats competed in the GCYFL’s top division in all age groups, earning two Conference championships, four Super Bowl appearances and one Super Bowl title.  Overall, the Wildcats had a .682% winning percentage, the highest by any Chapter since this award has been given.

Congratulations to all the players, teams, coaches and schools for another exceptional year of SCV football.
