Gold Coast Youth Football's Oxnard Knights hosted the leagues' inaugural passing tournament this weekend at Pacifica HS. The tourney featured J1, J2 and Senior teams that competed in two divisions.

In the Upper Division, the final featured J2 SC Wildcats Navy, the 2008 J1 Super Bowl champs, against the Senior Wildcats, in a hard fought battle.  Having lost to SC Navy in pool play, the Senior squad battled through the playoffs to secure a spot in the final and a chance at redemption for their only tournament loss.

It was a battle of QB cousins as Chase White led the Seniors to a come from behind win after Brady White had J2 Navy out in front for most of the game. The victory was sealed when Chase intercepted Brady at the goal line in the final minute, preserving a 26-22 victory. The pick was Brady's only interception in the tournament.

As Head Coach of this Senior team, I can share first hand that both teams played very hard and with sportsmanship & character. J2 Navy is loaded with stellar athletes and is well positioned to vie for another league title.

In the J1 division, SC Wildcats Navy were the top seed after going undefeated in pool play, but fell to Westlake Gold 16 - 6. Westlake Blue met SC Wildcats Gold in the other semi which Westlake won 22-2. Westlake Blue prevailed in the final over Westlake Gold 18 to 6.

Other SCYSA teams that participated were J1 Grizzlies, J2 Wildcats Gold and J2 Saugus Spartans.  In addition, teams for Ventura and Oxnard put on good showings throughout the tournament.

Tom Espinosa, Oxnard Knights President said, "All in all it was a great day, the weather was nice and everyone that I spoke with were pleased.  Our Chapter hopes to host it again next year."
