SCYSA Earns Sumner Sportsmanship Award
Monday, March 1, 2010 at 02:02PM The Santa Clarita Youth Sports Association was awarded the inaugural David Sumner Sportsmanship Award by the Gold Coast Youth Football League for the 2009 season. The award recognizes the GCYFL Chapter that best exemplifies sportsmanship on the field of play to include the conduct of its' players, coaches and fans.
The SCYSA is comprised of the Santa Clarita Wildcats, Santa Clarita Grizzlies and Saugus Spartans. Each Head Coach in the league has the opportunity to vote for one team he has faced during the season that best reflects these values.
The award is named in honor of David Sumner, a Simi Valley Viking player, who passed away during the 2009 season after suffering an injury during practice. The GCYFL wanted to memorialize David and his commitment and love of the game of football.
The David Sumner Award will be awarded to a GCYFL Chapter at the conclusion of each season from here on.
