Gardena Serra, Long Beach Poly are headed to Utah

It's road-trip time for Gardena Serra and Long Beach Poly. Both schools will be taking a bus trip to Utah this fall to play on Sept. 1 in the Beehive Classic at Bingham High in South Jordan, Utah.

Serra is scheduled to play Salt Lake City East at 1:30 p.m. Poly is scheduled to play Jordan from Sandy, Utah, at 4:30 p.m.

Serra opens its season a week earlier against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, which leaves the following week for a game in Ireland.

Isn't it difficult for football teams to travel long distances with so many players?

"It absolutely is," Serra Coach Scott Altenberg said.

But he believes it can be a positive bonding experience for the players.
